Legalisation & Notarial Services

Oaths Affidavits, Affirmations and Statutory Declarations

Our solicitors are all Notaries Public and are authorised to swear oaths for documents which require to be signed in that way, whether it be for documents changing your name or just generally counter signing your signature.

Foreign documents

Documents for use in foreign jurisdictions often require execution before a Notary.

Notarial execution

Signature on behalf of persons who are blind or unable to write. See the Requirements of Writing (Scotland) Act 1995.

Apostille Services

What is an Apostille?

An Apostille is a certificate attached by the U.K Foreign & Commonwealth Office which confirms that a document has been signed by a notary or other public official and that the notary or public official is a notary (or Companies House officer, Birth and Marriage or Death registrar, etc. in the United Kingdom.)

The UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office sign and place their seal on the Certificate and attach this to the Notarial document or public document to confirm its authenticity in the United Kingdom. It is a further layer of verification.  This sometimes called Legalisation.

We are happy to arrange this for clients. There are two ways to obtain an Apostille from the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office. They operate a postal servicing centre where the notarised document or public UK document is sent to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office Legalisation Office with payment proof and application form and they place the Apostille on the document before dispatching it to a nominated address.

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office Legalisation Office currently charge £30 per Apostille using this postal service. If you would like us to handle the legalisation of your notarised document, we will be happy to do so.

Medallion Guarantee Stamp

Why do I need a Medallion Signature Guarantee Stamp?

For someone who is living outside the US and holding stock in a US or Canadian listed company, the only way to sell the shares or transfer the ownership into a different name is to submit a Medallion Guarantee stamped Transfer Request or Stock Power Form to the transfer agent along with various required documents.

What is it?

The Medallion Guarantee is stamped onto the Transfer Request Form. It acts as official authentication of the validity and authority of the person initiating the transfer. The stamp shows the transfer agent that the signature is genuine, enabling them to proceed with their instruction to transfer or sell the stock. It is intended to protect shareholders and transfer agents alike from fraud. With this in mind, the stamp providers must therefore assure themselves that the person initiating a transfer of securities is who they say they are.

Who can issue them?

Providers of the Medallion Guarantee Stamp in the UK are all members of the Securities Transfer Agents Medallion Program (STAMP). They comprise a handful of companies in the UK who are authorised to issue the Medallion Guarantee Stamp but only when they are entirely satisfied that all criteria have been meticulously observed. We can arrange that your behalf.
